East Carolina smashed a couple of home runs in a five-run first inning at Elon on Tuesday night, then added another in the eighth en route to a 9-4 rout of the Phoenix in non-conference baseball action.
Hot-hitting Spencer Brickhouse opened the scoring by bashing his ninth homer of the season, a three-run shot to left-center field that put the Pirates up 3-0 before Jake Washer went deep to make it 4-0. With the Pirates up 7-3 in the eighth, Bryant Packard also went deep, his fifth, as part of his 3-for-5 night.
Brady Lloyd (2-for-4) added a pair of RBI singles and Turner Brown (3-for-4) also drove in a run as part of the Pirates’ 11-hit attack. On the mound, Alec Burleson, Cam Colmore, Evan Odum and Sam Lanier each took a turn with their team in the lead.
Cam Devanney and Matt Oldham went deep for Elon, but both were solo shots.
Packard, who has been limited by injuries all season, also scored three times.
