East Carolina went from on the bubble to officially in the NCAA women’s golf tournament on Wednesday, when the entire four-regional bracket was announced.

The Pirates will be the No. 14 seed at the Auburn (Ala.) Regional, beginning May 6, that is led by Duke as the No. 1 seed and American Athletic Conference champion Houston as the 8-seed. Each of the regionals is made up of 18 teams. ECU, which is ranked No. 53 in the nation by Golfstat, will be playing in a regional for the 13th time during a 17-year span.

“This means a lot to our program,” coach Kevin Williams said Wednesday night. “Our team struggled this fall, but we played much better this spring and having five wins over Top 25 schools really played a big role for us getting a national at-large bid.”

ECU’s regional will be played at Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Ala. The top-five seeds are Duke followed by Vanderbilt, Florida State, Auburn and Virginia. Six of the 18 teams playing in Opelika, Ala., will advance to the NCAA championships.
