East Carolina's women's soccer team capped its most successful weekend of the season on Sunday, winning 3-0 at Virginia Military Institute behind two goals by Grace Doran.
Sophia Demark added the final goal in the 81st minute for the Pirates (2-2-1), who won 5-0 at UNC Asheville on Friday. Doran scored in each half.
“Overall we are happy with two road wins and two shutouts,” coach Jason Hamilton said. “Getting a couple of wins under our belt will hopefully give us some confidence heading back home. Sunday games are very tough and we are very proud of the effort put forth today. Our decision-making and discipline is an area we can improve going forward in order to have success in the American Athletic Conference.”
Much like their 5-0 win at Asheville, the Pirates took early command of Sunday’s contest. Doran's first goal against VMI (1-4) came in the 26th minute.
Melanie Stiles was in net for most of the shutout, playing the first 78:01 and making four saves before Meaghan Haley came on for the final 11:59. Stiles had two saves versus Asheville.
