East Carolina and William & Mary kick off at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium at 6 p.m. and available to stream on ESPN3.

Here are three questions to know heading into the game, plus the video version at the bottom:

1. What is the score to begin the fourth quarter? East Carolina trailed 42-3 at Navy after three quarters last week, but it also led Gardner-Webb by a 38-9 score going into the fourth in the previous week. The Pirates simply have not been involved in a close game with tense moments during the final quarter yet this year. This is anticipated to be a more competitive game than the Gardner-Webb matchup, but will it be competitive for all four quarters?

2. How many different running backs carry the ball for the Pirates? This is first affected by the status of team-leading rusher Darius Pinnix and his injury, but he was not listed on the depth chart Tuesday and Hussein Howe was listed as the projected starter. Demetrius Mauney also should factor prominently into the equation, and, depending on the backfield rotation and flow of the night, look for fellow freshman Tay Williams to possibly see the field for the first time.

3. How much gold in the stands? ECU has tabbed this game as its annual “paint it gold” promotion and encouraged fans in all sections to wear gold. These things can look cool and sometimes they can flop. ECU is expecting a higher attendance compared to the 34,118 for the home opener on Sept. 7 versus Gardner-Webb.

East Carolina basketball has a Miles James and a J.J. Miles this season.

Adding to the possible confusion between the two on a revamped Pirate roster is they are both tall guards looking to make this ECU team better at 3-point shooting compared to last year.

A unique thing about (J.J.) Miles, who…
