N.C. High School Athletic Association Eastern Regional basketball action got off to an up and down start for Pitt County on Saturday afternoon.

It began with North Pitt controlling the contest against Kinston in the 2-A girls’ final and winning 71-51. Nyjanique Langley scored 21 of her 41 points in the fourth quarter.

The 4-A boys’ final between unbeaten South Central and Heritage was intense and physical and went in overtime. Heritage, which has East Carolina signee Jayden Gardner in the post and also a Virginia Tech recruit, pulled away to win 61-55.
