NP's Boykin signs; Chargers top Panthers

North Pitt outfielder Phillip Boykin signed late last week to play baseball at Louisburg College.

"It feels good, especially going into my senior year to already know where I'm going and all that," he said. "This is the ultimate goal. Once you get through little league, get through middle school and high school, you want to play at the next level, so this is good.”

Boykin hit .388 with 21 RBIs as a junior for the Panthers while playing center field and second base. He said the plan is for him to play predominantly outfield in college.

Louisburg first established contact with Boykin last summer, then ramped up its recruitment in the fall. Boykin said he had some other schools as options, but none that grabbed him the way Louisburg did.

"Louisburg was where I felt the most confident, the most comfortable and where I felt at home," he said. "When I went and toured the campus, I felt at home. Then, I looked at the play style and saw the team play a couple of times, and I really liked what I saw. I felt like it's a real good group of guys and I feel like I can go there and have a lot of success and get better for moving on."
