Teams cancel Wednesday games due to Florence

All six Pitt County high school football teams have postponed or outright canceled their Week Five match-ups amid the approach of Hurricane Florence.

To attempt to beat the storm, five of six schools initially pushed their games to Wednesday night. D.H. Conley was the only school to move its game with West Craven to a later date (Sept. 28) due to a mutual open week on both schedules. 

South Central’s trip to Hertford County was postponed along with Greene Central’s visit to Farmville Central. A rescheduled date has yet to be announced. Franklinton at J.H. Rose and Ayden-Grifton at North Pitt have been canceled outright.

Reschedule dates for postponements will likely be decided between teams after the hurricane has passed. 

Pitt County Schools employees were told they will be given an early release day on Wednesday, and will not be reporting to schools Thursday or Friday. As a result, other athletic events scheduled for tonight will go on as planned, while events scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and the weekend have all been cancelled.
