The weather once again played a factor in the scheduling of high school football games in Pitt County this week. In preparation for the arrival of the remnants of Hurricane Michael, J.H. Rose and D.H. Conley both played road games on Wednesday and both teams walked away with wins.

The trip by Ayden-Grifton (4-2, 1-0) to Kinston (5-0, 1-0) also was rescheduled from Friday to Saturday at 3 p.m.. The game will still serve as the Vikings’ homecoming game.

A-G’s most recent victory came on the Chargers’ homecoming, defeating Washington 24-15 last week. Running backs Ray Darden, Michael Webb and Kevin Boomer have all played well within head coach Paul Cornwell’s system. The Chargers’ offensive and defensive lines have also picked up steam, creating and dismantling pressure on both sides of the ball.

The Vikings, a traditionally fast team, will provide a tough match-up for the Chargers.

PREDICTION: The Chargers have a lot of momentum heading into this weeks match-up. However it will be the Vikings who bring home a victory.

NORTH JOHNSTON (2-4, 0-1) AT FARMVILLE CENTRAL (2-5, 0-1)

Farmville Central has the potential to turn around what has thus far been a disappointing season.

A big 20-point win over Nash Central last week showed that head coach Scott Gardner’s thoughts that his team had the ability to improve have come true.

Quarterback Tayvon Suggs and the brother running back pair of David and Sam Barrett has seen increases in rushing totals in each of its past four games.

PREDICTION: Farmville Central will need another strong performance from its offensive line to steal away another victory. The Jags get just that with a close win over the Panthers.

NORTHSIDE-PINETOWN (3-4, 0-2) AT NORTH PITT (0-7, 0-1)

North Pitt has the potential to become a contender in the 2-A Eastern Plains Conference in the future, though likely not this season. Injuries and a lack of experience provide a big barrier to breaking into the win column as the end of the regular season approaches.

A bright spot is that the Panthers team rushing totals have improved each of the last two weeks, including a 233-yard team total last week against SouthWest Edgecombe.

PREDICTION: Northside walks away with the win in this battle of the Panthers, providing another loss and a learning experience for the young NP squad.

WEST CRAVEN (2-3, 1-0) AT GREENE CENTRAL (5-2, 2-0)

Greene Central has taken care of business so far this season en-route to the top spot in the 2-A Eastern Carolina Conference. Led by the dynamic offensive duo of quarterback B.J. Corbitt and AJ Dupree, the Rams have the firepower to outscore almost any opponent.

Dupree leads the Rams and the conference with 683 yards and 11 touchdowns. His efforts have begun to materialize Division-I offers.

PREDICTION: The Rams’ offense will overpower the West Craven defense. With the win, GC will look down from the top of the conference.
