D.H. Conley senior wrestler Drake Daughtry hit a milestone on Tuesday night when he recorded his 100th career victory in a close loss to New Bern in a conference match held at South Central.
Daughtry became the first Vikings wrestler in 15 years to accomplish the feat. The returning team MVP and captain has helped the team to a sizzling 32-5 start to the season.
Although he was out during his freshman season due to a back injury, Daughtry has been able to climb the ladder in wins. He had 29 as a sophomore and 35 as a junior year, and it was his career-best 36th win that put him at the century mark.
The Vikings will host the Pitt County Championships on Jan. 19. It was incorrectly reported in Wednesday’s Daily Reflector that Conley finished 0-2 in Tuesday’s action, as the Vikings topped C.B. Aycock before falling one match shy of besting the Bears.
Five wrestlers were a perfect 2-0 on the night for Conley.
