Wrestlers set for regionals

Wrestlers from Pitt County will look to advance during East Regional meets today and Saturday, including the 3-A competition at Cleve­land High School in John­ston County.

D.H. Conley is sending 13 wrestlers to re­gion­als, in­clud­ing top per­form­ers Ethan Lenyzsen (113 pounds), Drake Daugh­try (126) and Reed Chan­dler (220). Others com­pet­ing will be Nick Stox (106), Nolan Mills (120), Porter Mills (132), Den­nis Smith (138), Walker Kass­nove (152), Car­son Hath­away (160), Troy Weaver (170), Gabe An­der­son (182), Rashid O’Neal (195) and Kirian Dav­ila (285).

J.H. Rose and head coach Greg Sisk also will be sending wrestlers to Cleveland, including Damarius Langley (106), Josiah Duke (126), standout Phifer Ozimek (132), Drew Sisk (138), James Thomas (152), Phillip Walter (170) and Sam Schmidt (182).

At Croatan High School, Pitt County and Eastern Plains 2-A Conference champion North Pitt will join Ayden-Grifton, Greene Central and Farmville Central for the 2-A East Regionals. 

The Panthers will send a large roster consisting of Adam Bullock (113), Jayvion Perry (120), Dominic Maurizzio (132), Dalton English (138), Izayah Horne (145), Shiheim Suggs (160), Cameron Jones (170), Raheem Jones (182), Alex Espinosa-Johnson (195), Khalil Everett (220) and Samuel Romulo (285).

For the Chargers, Landon Stocks (106), Hunter Dickens (138), Michael Dickens (145), Mason Ross (152), Jayce McClung (160), Ray Darden (195), Jeffery Darden (220) and Alfonso Boyd will look to advance. 

Greene Central has Carson Williams (106), Coryante Dawson (113), Joe Henderson (120), Cody Hartke (126), Jacob Potter (138), Jared Fields (170), Andres Garcia (182) and Tyrese Speight (285).

Farmville Central will send four wrestlers to the meet in Tyler Russell (113), Andrew Warner (120), William Clark (132) and Drew Grider (285).

South Central will be the lone Pitt County competitor in the 4-A East competition. The Falcons are sending Matthew Riggs (106), Shamar Cogdell (113), Travon Brown (120), William Cannaday (126), Kody Buck (132), Omica Daniels (138), Isiah Percy (145), Faris Dixon (160), Malik Jenkins (182), Jerell Belcher (220) and George Ayino (285).

To advance to the state competition, wrestlers need to finish in the top-four of their weight class at regionals. The state meet is Feb. 14-16 at the Greensboro Coliseum.
