Saturday night saw another edition of one of the top American Legion battles in Eastern North Carolina, as Post 39 hosted Wayne Post 11 in a conference makeup game. Post 11 walked away victorious, 9-4.

The bats never reached their full potential, as Post 39 earned nine hits on the night, compared to Post 11's 13.

"They are a very talented team and we're a very talented team," Post 39 head coach Ryan Meadows said. "We're both missing a bunch of guys tonight. We got outplayed, we got out coached and we got out-efforted, that's the bottom line. They got off the bus and wanted to play a high stakes American Legion baseball game tonight, and I'm not sure we did."

Anthony Saieed (1-for-4, 2B, R) Ryker Galska (2-for-4, 2B, R, 2 RBI), Will Weatherington (1-for-2, R, 2 BB) and Jacob Peaden earned runs on the night.

Wade Jarman and Caleb Morris each added one RBI each. 

It was a tough night at the plate, as Post 39 struggled to contend against a strong outing from Post 11 starter Blake Gibson (6.1 IP, 7 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 3 R, 3 ER).

Post 39 will wrap up the Pitt County American Legion Showcase tomorrow, when they face Pleasure Island.

The yearly showcase provides a unique opportunity for Post 39 to show off it home at Pitt Community College against out of state competition.

"That's why we call it a showcase," Meadows said. "It's not that there are going to be 100 college scouts here. We like showing off PCC's facility These guys are so great to us here. We love showing off Greenville and American Legion baseball to our community."

Post 39 will take on Pleasure Island at 7 p.m.
