For the first time all season every area team was able to start and complete their schedule game on Friday night, a night that featured two Pitt County rivalries. As Ayden-Grifton and South Central both picked up wins, J.H. Rose and D.H. Conley struggled to mount a fight. Take a look at the weeks top performers and results from around the area.
ONE STAR: Michael Webb, Ayden-Grifton, running back (9 carries, 117 yards, 3 TDs)
Webb shined as the Chargers defeated rival Farmville Central for the fifth consecutive season, making his case to remain A-G’s go-to back throughout the game.
It’s no surprise to see the senior making the most of his touches, as the Chargers hold a perfect 3-0 record.
He looks to have another favorable matchup next week when A-G travels to take on North Pitt.
TWO STARS: Micheal Johnson, defensive end, Greene Central (8 total tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 5 sacks)
Johnson seemed to be everywhere on the field in GC’s 8-6 win over Eastern Wayne Friday night.
The defensive lineman not only kept up the pressure on quarterback Wesley Case, but he made good plenty of times in what was a truly magnificent performance.
Johnson is poised for another strong night this Friday, as he and the Rams hit the road to face Farmville Central.
THREE STARS: Kevone Harris, South Central, Running Back (23 carries, 153 yards, 3 rush TDs)
Harris earns the honor of the weeks top performer for the second consecutive week, as he once again put up three rushing scores in SC's victory over North Pitt.
Combined over the last two weeks Harris has picked up 271 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns off 45 carries. What made his Friday night stats even more impressive was that he shared the workload heavily with fellow rusher Zyaire Williams, especially in the second half where Williams became the go-to back.
Harris has a chance to make it three in a row next week when the Falcons host Hertford County.
TOP TEAM OF THE WEEK: Greene Central (Win, 8-6 against Eastern Wayne)
Greene Central earned the honor of this weeks Top Team of the Week, after first-year head coach Jason Wilson picked up his first win in charge of the Rams.
The game seemed reminiscent of a 1970's NFL game, based on tough defense where one play made a difference in the outcome. After falling just short of knocking off 4-A opponent South Central earlier this season, the Rams battled to down SC's conference foe, 3-A Eastern Wayne.
In their first full game without starting running back Knowledge Branch, who is out for season with a knee injury, the Rams offense performed in the key situations needed in order to pull out the win.
Ayden-Grifton (3-0) 40, Farmville Central (0-3) 12
Scotland (3-0) 35, D.H. Conley (0-3) 8
Rocky Mount (3-1) 35, J.H. Rose (2-2) 0
South Central (3-1) 44, North Pitt (0-3) 30
