Cd’s Grill has celebrated its one-year anniversary and updated its menu and hours just in time for summer. If you’re seeking comfort food in all its forms with a welcoming atmosphere, then Cd’s should be your next food stop.

The restaurant is located at 111 W. Fire Tower Road, Suite E, in Winterville. It has a spacious location with a no frills feel, leaving room for the food to be the star. The staff serves an array of mouthwatering items for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The business reminds me of diners from the past where the servers know your name and remember what you like to eat. You come in, grab a seat and get ready to have all the favorite flavors of your childhood, from country ham and sausage, hash-browns, pork chops, shrimp, hamburger steak, chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers and other delights.

The stewards for my tasting were Patsy and Lawrence Manning. Lawrence describes the locally owned and operated grill as a place for comfort food and all the fixings that go with it. From fresh cooked-to order breakfast foods, to filling lunch favorites, right down to a traditional steak, salad and potato dinner, Cd’s is where you can come feel satisfied with every bite.

“We are locally owned with a wide variety of country food favorites. It’s fresh food done right. Our patrons come back time and again because they love what we have to offer,” Manning says.

Their menu is super easy to navigate with traditional favorites all affordably priced. Breakfast items include eggs cooked to order, sausage dogs, bacon, ham, tenderloin or sausage. Cd’s even has pancakes and just recently added french toast to the menu.

Fan favorites include their southern cheese biscuits stuffed with cheddar cheese oozing with cheesy goodness. For those who are picky breakfast eaters and want a little of this and little of that, select one pancake, one egg, or pair a few sides items for a breakfast made your way every time. I am one of those people that can eat and often does eat breakfast for every meal.

Now let’s have some lunch. Choose from hotdogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, shrimp burgers, BLTs, HLTs, chicken dinners, hamburger steak, pork chops, shrimp plates, trout and salad. It just added cheese steaks, homemade chicken salad and fried flounder to the menu.

Daily lunch specials include fried trout, fried chicken or a daily special with two sides and bread or hush-puppies for the affordable price of $7.99. On Mondays, enjoy barbecue chicken; Tuesday is pork tenderloin with gravy; Wednesday is chicken and pastry; Thursday is barbecue pork chops; and Friday is homemade spaghetti.

Side items include french fries, onion rings, mashed potatoes and gravy, yams, cabbage, green beans, field peas, a corn and lima bean mix, okra, macaroni and cheese, black-eyed peas, rutabagas, potato salad and slaw. Make sure to check the veggie board when you come in since Cd’s rotates its vegetable offerings based on the season and availability. On Friday nights, they offer a full salad bar with baked potatoes or sweet potatoes as well as Black Angus ribeye steaks up to 24 ounces, and a side of toast.

For my food tasting I selected the Spaghetti lunch plate. Start with a large helping of angel hair pasta topped with a generous slather of seasoned tomato and meat sauce. Pair that with a buttered and grilled slice of thick Texas toast for dipping. The sauce was hearty and robust and their were large chunks of tender meat throughout. It was plenty of delicious food to fill you up.

You can add-on the salad bar on Fridays for a full meal experience. The salad bar is exactly what you would expect in the South, offering a delightful array of sides. Start with iceberg lettuce and add on chopped ham, cucumbers, tomatoes, shredded carrots, celery, chopped hard boiled eggs, mushrooms, pickles, jalapenos, banana peppers, shredded cheddar cheese, croutons, and a variety of dressings. This is my kind of salad bar since I like a little bit of lettuce and a whole lot of all of the other toppings.

And don’t forget to get some of their scrumptious desserts including cake slices, brownies, and banana pudding. No matter what time of day you stop by Cd’s Grill, you are sure to find a menu item that will fill you up and keep you satisfied. Welcome your taste buds back to the south with a trip to Cd’s Grill and you’re sure to find a permanent place at their dining room table.

Cd’s Grill is open six days a week Monday-Thursday 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Friday 6 a.m.-8:30 p.m., and Saturday 6 a.m.-2:30 p.m. They have plenty of space for on-site events or you can hire them for your next off-site catering event for any size. One of my favorite summertime activities is attending cookouts. They have a myriad of tasty food from grilled meats, salads, desserts, and all the other fixings we associate with this event. One of my favorite things to serve at a cookout is seafood in any form from grilled, marinated to fried.
