Misguided obsession

Tuesday, December 26, 2017

I am amazed at the obsession the reporters and editors of this newspaper have in the assault video on Patrick Myrick. They have no interest in the assault of the woman that initiated the attack.

In the old days, it would have been called “defending a lady’s honor.” The reporters and editors show no interest in the possible videos of the woman’s assault on her injuries.

Today, there is a highly charged atmosphere about assault on women. Hollywood, the news media, and politicians are finally giving voice to women that are physically and sexually assaulted. The editors and reporters of this paper do not.

Once again, liberal prove their hypocrisy of protecting women’s rights.

Note: The Reflector requested all video of the incident, including the initial assault. Authorities continue to withhold the video.

Paula Dance is, without a doubt, the best candidate for sheriff of Pitt County. She has worked as a deputy sheriff for 26 years, climbing the ladder of success from sergeant to lieutenant to captain and to her present capacity as major in the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. From her vast experience…

I read with interest Monday’s editorial titled “Country needs more effective leaders like Haley.” As I read this highly laudatory editorial about outgoing United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and how she split from President Trump on several issues, I…

The Trump Administration along with the support of all Republican Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, with the exception of Walter Jones, passed the Tax Reform Act that was suppose to increase take home pay and reduce the U S Deficit. Did this law help or hurt the average…

The recent hearings and vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court once again shed light on how divided this country is. The feeling among many is that we have an illegally elected government due to the influence of extremist Republican legislators and their record of…

As we prepare to go to the polls in coming days, we need to understand how we vote will determine who is making decisions on the issues that will impact our communities. We have to make sure that those deciders are people who respect communities of color and who will have our best interests in mind…

I would like to discuss the two candidates for N.C. House District 9. There are two entirely different candidates from which to choose.

One, Dr. Greg Murphy, has represented District 9 for the last three years with honor, integrity and experience. He has been a business owner for 25 years, a…

The only letter I have ever written to the Public Forum was four years ago when when we lost our total house to a fire. I then wrote in praise of our fire department and especially Chief Griffin. They were quick to respond, efficient, and so kind and compassionate. There were some adverse…

Having been a licensed attorney for over 40 years, I have only rarely known a lawyer for whom I have as much respect as I have for Jarrette Pittman. He comprises the epitome of a well-rounded, superbly well-educated, highly-experienced, and deeply-philosophical seeker of social justice and…

On Oct. 1, 2017, the U.S. experienced its deadliest mass shooting in modern history: 58 people killed and 800 injured in Las Vegas. Following this tragedy, our government did nothing to improve gun safety and better protect its citizens.

About four months later 17 people were killed at a high…

Dr. Gregory F. Murphy has done a great job during his first term as a representative for N.C. House District 9, and I am supporting his re-election. As a citizen of the City of Greenville and County of Pitt, I am a witness to how he communicates with people and his immediate responses to their…
