Please support Major Paula Dance for sheriff of Pitt County. Her experience in law enforcement is extensive, as the previously published summaries detail. I have worked with Major Dance on difficult cases when I was doing forensic pathology. I found her to be diligent and thourough. It is my belief that she will enforce the law as written in a way that is fair to all. She is, in my opinion, honest and hard working. Her leadership will be an asset to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. Please vote for Paula Dance for sheriff!

Recent events in Gaza were reminiscent of TV scenes from Birmingham during the 1960s Civil Rights struggle. Palestinians using slingshots in the face of “shoot to kill” orders from Netanyahu’s military left 60 dead and 2,700 injured. When such events take place in Syria,…

Mr. Dautremont, sadly you are uninformed about the “murderous regime of Israel” (Public Forum, May 21). Loss of life is tragic but it happens in battle. Gazans were not gathering for a peaceful meet and greet at the border. Guns, knives, Molotov cocktails, incendiary kites, chain…

As Memorial Day comes and goes, we can say farewell to paradise. Yes, “they paved paradise and put a parking lot.”

The swimming pool, its slide, diving area, and lap swim will repeat history. Goodbye summer swim at the Fitness Connection in Greenville. You will be missed.

Mass murder of Palestinians? (Public Forum, May 21) If you have people telling you repeatedly they are going to kill you and destroy your home, then show up at your doorstep to do just that, would you invite them in? I think not.

Israel rightfully will and should defend itself from the barbarians…

In a recent letter, David Rushing claims that I erred (1) in writing that the arms protected in the Second Amendment are arms available at the time of the amendment’s adoption, and (2) in writing that the Bill of Rights contains no preamble.

First, in the 10 years since Heller, the Supreme…

I noted in Sunday’s Daily Reflector that Rev. Bob Hudak is retiring as rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. I am glad he will enjoy a respite from his pastoral duties and know he will remain active in the eastern Carolina community he lives in.

Although we in the Coalition…

While the argument over the 2nd Amendment carries on in the DR, some of our sclerotic legislators introduced a two-page piece of legislation Thursday, HB 965, that is a direct affront to both the U.S. Constitution and the Bible. Should this bill pass, both public school and charter school students…

In reference to the column by Walter Williams talking about Kanye West being a problem for the Democratic Party, I admire Kanye West for standing tall and speaking his heart. I don't think most people, if polled, would agree that they like change.

If your friends told you that you could do certain…

So the Democratic arm, the N.C. Association of Educators, wants to return to the glory days of Gov. Bev Perdue. Someone close to me taught during the Perdue administration. It was four years without a pay increase. Perdue actually broke the state contract with the teachers and withheld part of…

I am shocked and ashamed that our government supports the current murderous regime of Israel. I don't understand how we, as American citizens, can stand by and calmly observe the unwarranted murder of more than 50 Palestinians and the wounding and maiming of hundreds more by the Israeli…
