Duke needs to raise substation

Loading…

Friday, September 21, 2018

The citizens of Grifton have continued since Hurricane Floyd to go without power for several days after a hurricane due to Duke Energy not addressing the issue with its substation on Harvey Rouse Road.

This substation floods every time a storm hits our area because of an canal running beside the station. It is amazing that nothing has been done to raise the power panels up to in order to keep this from happening time and time again.

The town of Ayden's substation sits right beside the one which fails due to flooding, but on theirs the power panels are 3-4 feet higher so the town can operate. Hopefully with your help of getting this out, someone will decide to finally address this so the town of Grifton and its residents so they aren't left having to go to surrounding towns to get food and gas and the basics to live after enduring the storm itself. Thank you for sharing this information.

For the last 28 years, I have been privileged to serve in law enforcement. During that time, I have had many opportunities to work alongside Gary Weaver. Now, it is my honor to publically support Gary Weaver in his bid to become the next sheriff of Pitt County. Gary has dedicated his life to public…

On Oct. 2, Jamal Khashoggi, a U.S.-based journalist and democracy advocate, entered the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. He has not been seen since. It is not surprising that Saudi Arabia appears to be responsible for Khashoggi’s suspected murder. The kingdom has a long history of…

I was shocked into disbelief when I recently drove down Easy Street near the Pitt-Greenville Airport and saw numerous nails lying on the street. Kindly, I exited my vehicle and removed many of the nails. I then proceeded to drive around the remaining ones and headed toward Belvoir. This was not the…

I received two mailings from Dr. Greg Murphy and the Republican party that attacked Kris Rixon. Why should Kris Rixon be attacked to that degree? Shame on you!

Kris Rixon is running for N.C. House 9. Kris will work to expand medicaid. Over 1,000 people die each year who are not able to afford…

I read with great disgust the recent Reflector interview with Dave Hart. There is no excuse for the current shape of the East Carolina University athletic department.

Here we are six months after Jeff Compher's firing, and not only does the university not have a permanent athletic director, Hart…

Paula Dance is, without a doubt, the best candidate for sheriff of Pitt County. She has worked as a deputy sheriff for 26 years, climbing the ladder of success from sergeant to lieutenant to captain and to her present capacity as major in the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. From her vast experience…

I read with interest Monday’s editorial titled “Country needs more effective leaders like Haley.” As I read this highly laudatory editorial about outgoing United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and how she split from President Trump on several issues, I…

The recent hearings and vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court once again shed light on how divided this country is. The feeling among many is that we have an illegally elected government due to the influence of extremist Republican legislators and their record of…

As we prepare to go to the polls in coming days, we need to understand how we vote will determine who is making decisions on the issues that will impact our communities. We have to make sure that those deciders are people who respect communities of color and who will have our best interests in mind…

I would like to discuss the two candidates for N.C. House District 9. There are two entirely different candidates from which to choose.

One, Dr. Greg Murphy, has represented District 9 for the last three years with honor, integrity and experience. He has been a business owner for 25 years, a…
