McConnell is super obstructionist

Loading…

Wednesday, January 9, 2019

Mitch McConnell is abdicating his Constitutional duties as leader of half of the first branch of government. Doing nothing is not an option and not the way our system works, and he degrades the office by acting as a minion whose job it is to protect the president at all costs.

This is the same man who met with his Republicans on Obama's first inauguration day to craft the super-obstructionist strategy, vowing to never support Obama in any way, even with ideas that originated on the Republican side. So the sheer hypocrisy of him chiding the Democrats for standing in the way of Trump's unhinged agenda is galling.

He did more to break our Democratic republic system than any other single person. Not holding confirmation hearings on or even meeting with Obama's Supreme Court nominee delegitimized both himself and future Court rulings. Now he says he won't even bring to the floor anything sent to them by the House that is not pre-agreed to by the president.

The president does not negotiate in good faith, constantly moves the goal posts, changes his mind from one minute to the next, lies through his teeth, compulsively and pathologically, and contradicts almost everything said by his surrogates, making it where nothing anybody says makes any difference.

And now he would compromise our very national security to back up Trump on the wall which he promised us Mexico would pay for. Shutting down the government for that lie is unconscionable.

McConnell is up for re-election next year, hopefully his constituents are as disgusted with him as I am. We can only hope.

I am deeply saddened to see the current horrible news about what is taking place on our southern border. Although I do not condone illegal immigration, I am outraged how our government is subjecting human beings to deplorable conditions while incarcerated. These immigrants, documented or not,…

Hey, where’d Russia go?

Isn’t it just impressive how the illiberal media Democrat machine are more in lock step than synchronized swimmers?

The good news is it’s like a failure parade: floating along waving with band music in front of the masses and abruptly coming to an end.…

I am new to traveling nurses. I recently opened my home to a traveling nurse. After only a short time, this nurse, who is very pleasant and passionate about her work, has shared very disturbing news. She has found some nurses at Vidant rude, dismissive and very judgmental without even knowing…

Welcome to Greenville — a growing city with an extraordinarily diverse population of citizens, many of whom came here as immigrants. It’s good for you to know that institutions like Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University have attracted such gifted persons and their families.…

I believe we should only spend what we take in. We should not keep giving the rich and the corporations more and more and more and hope the windfall trickles down.

I believe in sharing, and that if everyone brings just one dish to a covered dish dinner, there would be more than everyone could eat.…

Please listen to the news, read the papers, align yourselves with people who are engaged in politics... just stay abreast of the events in our state as relates to politics. Educate your family, friends and neighbors. Our political system in North Carolina is broken, and unfair district maps are the…

What does the mayor’s basement have to do with good government?

The traditional July break from meeting is a good time for the Greenville City Council to stop a bad practice—discussing the public’s business in afternoon “workshops” in a small conference room without…

Lawrence Watts, in July 4th’s Public Forum, challenged anyone to obtain and publish the "real numbers" of energy production by the Amazon Wind Farm in NC (near Elizabeth City). In 2018, according to windexchange.energy.gov, the production was more than 500,000 megawatt hours.

Watts asserted…

Regarding his letter to the Reflector on June 30, I don’t recall ever “having made [Milton Bland’s] acquaintance.” Perhaps Mr. Bland is simply too “bland” for one to remember. His comment that “ask[ed for] ... an unqualified favor ... Tinsley exudes a…
