Unnatural Resources Fair coming

The 27th Annual Eastern Carolina Unnatural Resources Fair is coming Feb. 1-3 with your support. If our residents weren’t creative and enjoyed entering, we wouldn’t have a fair.

In 26 years, we have had approximately 10,000 creative entries recreating our used resources. The fair is up to all of us and your entries. All we can do is plan the fair. It is an inexpensive way to make things that you need and learn new skills.

Anyone can enter from kindergarten to senior citizens living east of I-95. The categories are science, math, art, music, physical education, language arts, history/social studies, toys, tools and miscellaneous. All entries win a ribbons, and the first place winners also get a trophy or medallion. If you make it, we have a place for it.

The fair is free to enter and free to visit. It is the only one of its kind in the U.S. that covers so many subjects. Go to www.unnaturalresources.org for a flier, examples, rules, sponsorships and booths. If you have questions, just call 252-355-1039 or email me at jponder@unnaturalresources.org.

North Carolina throws away enough resources to go around the world twice each year, and 80 percent can be reused or composted. We can always use more sponsors to grow. Hope to see you at the fair.

With the death and funeral of President George H.W. Bush, our nation was jolted out of its dark mood by memories of a man who: frequently served his country with distinction; found nobility in his service to others; recognized that his moments of influence were fleeting and used those moments to…

I have a good plan for Silent Sam: Bring him to Little Washington, N.C., and put him in Oakdale Cemetery. I don’t think the people here will harm him.

The people here are much nicer than the people in Raleigh that are shipped in from every country and a whole lot of thugs, after all, the city…

This wall is a waste of money — money that could be well spent helping the lives of American citizens in need.

We are one of the only first-world countries in the world to not have universal healthcare, but we would rather spend billions of dollars on a wall.

This wall may put a bandaid on…

I was at a basketball practice. To improve shooting from the foul-line, the coach instituted a drill. If the player didn’t make the shot, the rest of the team had to run relays or do push-ups. This was for every player and every shot. It was grueling.

There were lessons, but the one that was…

Mitch McConnell is abdicating his Constitutional duties as leader of half of the first branch of government. Doing nothing is not an option and not the way our system works, and he degrades the office by acting as a minion whose job it is to protect the president at all costs.

This is the same man…

After a four-day news fast, how delighted I was to read two editorials in The Daily Reflector on issues that are dear to my heart.

The reprint of a Pittsburgh-Post Gazette piece credits the president with making the right decision to withdraw from Syria. Our government has spent too much blood and…

Trump, 72, Pelosi, 78, and Schumer, 68. All idiots, seated together but never look at the other while displaying their middle finger.

Give me billions. No, you give me ten Democrats. I want a wall. Nope, can't have it. Here ya go, I'll shut down jobs. Now our younger generation, dads and moms are…

My son, Jalen, enrolled at North Carolina Virtual Academy due to anxiety issues that seem so typical for teens. He had some developmental delays in early elementary school, setting the stage for academic challenges. We looked for options beyond the traditional brick and mortar classroom after Jalen…

While walking my dog, I saw a trash can with a sign on it. I couldn’t read the words but found the possibilities of its script very, very intriguing.

These neighbors are not native peoples. That isn’t surprising as few of us are. In fact, there is a chance that they hail from the part…
