I’m guessing Walter will be leaving us pretty soon.

I’ve known him most of my life and many years ago his father bailed me out of a situation that would have bankrupted me.

I was 29 years old and had never made a political contribution to him and called his office directly at 8:30 in the morning.

i spoke with his office manager and explained my situation to him.

At 9;30 a.m. My problem was gone.

The office manager called me back and asked me if my problem had been taken care of and if I had been treated courteously.

He never asked me for a donation, only that I remember them in the next election.

Walter Jr. was like that.

I did not agree with his politics 95 percent of the time but always voted for him.

He was a honest and honorable man much unlike the people around him in D.C.

He voted his conscience as was evidenced by his own party removing him from all the House committees he should have served on automatically.

He was a unique person and floated far above the swamp.

He will be sorely missed.

The only promise I can leave him with is that I will vote for anyone who has those same traits of honesty and integrity no matter their political affiliation.

Take care Walter.

If there was ever a time to call it like you see it, it's now.

Recent events throughout our nation have not only shone the spotlight once again on our lack of unity, kindness, decency and respect for human life, but they have spoken a deeper truth — we are unequivocally wrong.

We are wrong to…

The east branch of the Shepard Memorial library is one of the best library's in the USA.

Today a man on a John Deere three wheeler pulling a small trailer with a sprayer tank mounted on the trailer was spraying some kind of chemical around the entrances and other areas around the library. The…

Many fear that President Trump is “an existential threat” to our nation and our world. That fear is nothing new.

In 2017, Dr. Bandy Lee, a forensic psychiatrist at the Yale School of Medicine who specializes in violence prevention, felt compelled to organize a conference of mental…

Now that Greg Murphy has won the nomination to run for North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District, I have some questions for him.

You promised to support President Trump’s agenda. Ok, let’s see.

Will you vote to lower pollution standards so that our air and water pollution will…

In 2008, Senate Republican leader “Moscow Mitch” McConnell delegitimized his party by deciding with his colleagues not to support a single policy initiative of Obama's, even ideas that originated on their side, like the individual mandate. Then they destroyed the rest of their…

I am writing with regard to Senate Bill 559 now pending before the state House. Public commentary has focused upon the provision that this bill will allow Duke Energy to apply for multi-year rate structures which may extend up to five years.

Under current law, energy providers such as Duke have to…

This letter is written to thank Dr. Greg Murphy for the outstanding work he has done in his relatively short tenure as a member of the state House of Representatives.

Murphy’s work has been distinguished by results and compelling by content. As the only physician in the legislature, Murphy in…

I can’t think of a statistic offered by the anti-gun lobby that is not at least misleading if not simply wrong. For example, according to CDC, the 2016 rate of firearm-related deaths in children 0-19 was 3.5 per 100,00, not 11 as a recent letter indicated. Anti-gun statistics also…

After the latest round of horrific mass murders, it is time that our local, state and national governments take real and effective steps to reduce this alarming and tragic trend. Other countries have done so effectively and there is no reason that we can not and should not.

It is not simply a…
