Judge overstepped authority

Legal precedent: a legal case that establishes a principle or rule. The rule is used by the court to decide later cases with similar issues or facts. No ruling has been leaned on more than Roe v. Wade. The ruling established the right to kill an unborn until fetal viability, the time that the baby could live outside the womb. Viability is subjective. Only God knows if the baby would live. WWJD?

Judge Bryan Collins has set a new legal precedent. Collins has canceled millions of votes on voter ID and the tax cap. Collins contends that the vote is invalid because the General Assembly is invalid because of district gerrymandering. Therefore, any law passed by these legislators are invalid. Sorry Gov. Cooper, you can’t disperse the billions of dollars for hurricane victims. Sorry teachers, no pay raise, no funding for more teachers and funding for more schools.

Judge Collins holds an elective position in Wake County. I estimate that at least 90 percent of North Carolina voters had no voice as to whether this man qualifies as an unbiased judge. What right does he have to cancel our majority vote?

Medicaid work requirements were recently struck down by a federal judge in yet another state, which represents another positive step toward removing this undue reporting burden for the poorest Americans.

Such requirements only make access to quality care harder for thousands of people. In Arkansas…

I am responding to the Sunday, Aug. 18, letter titled “Gun Control Lobby Misleads.”

The writer references the anti-gun lobby statistics (notice he labeled it “anti-gun” instead of pro-gun laws lobby) related to firearm deaths as bogus. Whether his accusations are correct or…

No, Dr. Soderstrom, “sociopathic nihilists” (Public Forum Aug. 18) are not the “real problem.” “Sociopathic nihilists” armed with high-capacity, rapid firing, military-style assault rifles — rifles designed for no other purpose than people-hunting —…

If there was ever a time to call it like you see it, it's now.

Recent events throughout our nation have not only shone the spotlight once again on our lack of unity, kindness, decency and respect for human life, but they have spoken a deeper truth — we are unequivocally wrong.

We are wrong to…

Now that Greg Murphy has won the nomination to run for North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District, I have some questions for him.
