The Kiwanis Club of Golden K Greenville has completed this year’s Support of our Youth in the Pitt County Schools through distributing over 1,800 books to first-graders. This program started some 10 years ago and continues to grow.

Thanks to the Community Foundation of NC East Inc. for its support, along with the Kiwanis Club of Golden K Greenville Foundation, we bring these books to each school and present them directly to the children.

We also had the honor of presenting bikes to the Terrific Kids at South Greenville Elementary, Eastern Elementary and Elmhurst Elementary schools. These young people were selected based upon their positive behavior, academic skills and being good people.

The Kiwanis believe in serving the children of the world, starting in our community. Please join with us in supporting out youth and our public schools.

The recent purchase by the city of the “Big Splash” property on U.S. 264 by the Tar River is indeed good news. The 163 acres is intended to “create a park focused on river and lake-based recreational activities,” something sorely needed in Greenville. The property includes a…

In December 1999, the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina had plans to open a branch in Greenville to help better serve our neighbors in the east. However, Hurricane Floyd had different plans.

Shamefully, ECU fraternity and sorority students can be manipulated by a narrow clique in town to seat a Greenville City Council majority to do the bidding of that narrow special interest clique. We want students voting. But it’s another thing if students are lied to and offered bribes by…

Getting right to the point and pulling no punches: Donald Trump is a sick, selfish, stupid person who should never have been elected president. His chaotic, divisive, autocratic style of governing has set our democracy on a steady downhill course. He has not done this alone, however. His house is…

As a moderate I am certainly disappointed with our choices for president of the United States. Trump’s tweets and methods of governing certainly do not resonate with me.

Yet, on the Democratic side there is no moderate candidate left. Reps. John Delaney and Tim Ryan both defended capitalism…

One Sept. 2, a three judge panel ruled that the legislative maps currently in use in our state are unconstitutional.

The framers of our constitution envisioned that there would be a fair election process where the citizens of this state would choose their representatives free of overtly partisan…

Wilson will be hosting a brand new American musical this weekend, aligning with the 100 year anniversary celebration of the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, originally the Wilson Theater in the historic downtown district. The musical is set in 1919, the same year the Wilson Theater was built.

Greg Murphy, running for Walter Jones Jr.’s seat in Congress, stated that he would cut way back on entitlements. Social Security payments to seniors are considered "an entitlement."

I worked for 34 years, and my husband worked over 40 years. We both paid into the Social Security fund the…

Thanks so much, Mr. Koegel! (Public Forum, Aug. 27) Silly me! There I was following the New York Times, Washington Post, Associated Press, TV networks and Daily Reflector in claiming that there already had been over 250 mass shootings in the country at the time of the El Paso and Dayton tragedies.…
