Chant brings shame, disgrace

Monday, July 22, 2019

Here’s a message for all you Pitt Countians and others who attended Wednesday’s Trump rally on the ECU campus, only to disgrace yourselves, the university and the city by mindlessly uttering that crass, misguided and ill-informed chant, “Send her back!” How pathetic! Where is your brain?

Donald Trump is childish, hateful, destructive and a total disgrace to the presidency. He fosters negativity here and abroad, using coarse language to disparage those who publicly disagree with him. His dishonesty, temperament and base values practically guarantee his loss of stature and credibility on the world stage. He does not read, or heed the counsel of his highly qualified advisers, or respect the U.S. Constitution and our form of government.

And isn’t there something amiss with the self-esteem of a president who convenes these rallies simply to garner media attention and adulation of the masses who voted for him? His message is one of hate. Is that really what you admire?

I am a graduate of East Carolina University; I taught at the school of nursing for 12 years, and I resided in Greenville for over 22 years. Once I was proud to be a part of Greenville. But you who participated in that ugly chant have brought shame and disgrace through your vile hatred, prejudice and ignorance.

Medicaid work requirements were recently struck down by a federal judge in yet another state, which represents another positive step toward removing this undue reporting burden for the poorest Americans.

Such requirements only make access to quality care harder for thousands of people. In Arkansas…

I am responding to the Sunday, Aug. 18, letter titled “Gun Control Lobby Misleads.”

The writer references the anti-gun lobby statistics (notice he labeled it “anti-gun” instead of pro-gun laws lobby) related to firearm deaths as bogus. Whether his accusations are correct or…

No, Dr. Soderstrom, “sociopathic nihilists” (Public Forum Aug. 18) are not the “real problem.” “Sociopathic nihilists” armed with high-capacity, rapid firing, military-style assault rifles — rifles designed for no other purpose than people-hunting —…

If there was ever a time to call it like you see it, it's now.

Recent events throughout our nation have not only shone the spotlight once again on our lack of unity, kindness, decency and respect for human life, but they have spoken a deeper truth — we are unequivocally wrong.

We are wrong to…
