Send him back
Monday, July 22, 2019
David Ransom enlisted in the Continental Army believing in the enlightened concepts of democracy espoused by brilliant men and women in Europe and the colonies. There would be justice through an independent judiciary and a representative legislature that could prevent the recurrence of tyranny.
David entered the Connecticut Line as a private and achieved the rank of sergeant major. At the end of his first enlistment, during the darker days of the Revolution, he did not return home to tend the farm. Instead, he re-enlisted believing in this fledgling democracy and its aspirations for mankind.
Our historical past has been far from perfect and sometimes convulsive. Examples included the persistence of slavery, racism, the displacement and internment of native and Japaneese Americans, brutal oppression of the labor movement, reluctant acceptance of past waves of immigrants, suppression of women’s rights and the right to vote and an incomprehensible concentration of wealth and influence in a small elite.
Throughout the ages, expression of critical thought has led to social, scientific, technological, democratic and educational progress. Democracy is the platform for this evolutionary process as codified in the First Amendment.
Send her back is a racist, reactionary chant initiated by a racist, white nationalist tyrant and echoed by his sycophantic cult. If this is fun for you people — you need to get a life! Don't try to justify your racism — own it! I dare you! Go to a person of color and tell them to go back. You can do it at work, at the gym or in the street.
Ah, but you won't because you all display the same level of cowardice that emanates from your beloved leader. Send him back! Send him back to the deepest cesspool from whence he came.
Michael Ransom Gough
