Vendor of the week: alarita Gourmet Foods

Marty and Luanne Welch of Alarita Gourmet Foods, the Leroy James Farmers Market vendor of the week.

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

The Leroy James Farmers Market vendor of the week is alarita Gourmet Foods LLC.

Proprietors Marty and Luanne Welch moved to North Carolina from Crystal Lake, Ill., 15 years ago.

Luanne and Marty married in 1957. Luanne stayed home to raise their five kids, and Marty joined the Kraft Foods Company as a sales manager. After a few years, Marty’s job moved them to Illinois. Eventually Marty left Kraft Foods and started a Kwik Kopy Printing along with two of his children. After many years of running the print shop, they sold it and moved to North Carolina to be with family and retire.

Since then they have been working with their daughter La Rita and her family to build alarita Gourmet Foods LLC. They work in every step of the process, but the most fun for them is going to the farmers market and selling salsa. As they like to say, “It’s all about having fun and sharing smiles.”

Alarita offers fresh salsas (flavors include cucumber, mango and pineapple), shelf-stable canned salsas, and mild and spicy “alariffic” seasoning blends. Call 814-1627 for more information.

The Leroy James Farmers Market is at 4560 County Home Road. Hours are from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
