“I am thankful for my mema because she cooks for the whole family. At Thanksgiving, we have turkey that makes your taste buds say, “Horray!” My mema cooks string beans with bacon grease that brings out flavors which make you feel you are in imaginary land. Oh, her sweet potato pie is creamy goodness! My mema still presses through when she is in pain. She is such a good provider for us.”

— Jour'nae Baker, Northwest Elementary School

Q I am afraid I may be a controlling mom of my young adult daughter, but we have a dynamic in which she seeks me out often, solicits my advice, and makes me too important in her life.
