Wingstop is a new restaurant at 1885 E. Fire Tower Road next to Baskin Robbins Ice Cream. Enjoy ample seating at artfully decorated tables with an aviation theme, listen to upbeat music and order an array of items from wings to sides from the easy-to-navigate menu.

Wingstop offers three styles of wings — classic bone-in, boneless or crispy tenders. Once you pick which wings you prefer, choose from a multitude of sauces and rubs to add spice, sweet, tangy or raging, tongue-burning flavors to jolt your taste buds. There are 12 flavors from sweet to Buffalo hot.

I decided to try them all, or I should say I attempted to try as many flavors as my taste buds would allow. You can order from six-100 wings at a time or select from crafted combos that include drinks and fries, with prices starting at $7.79. Don’t forget to order sliced carrots and celery, and make sure to try the scratch-made cool ranch dressing or the savory chunky blue cheese. These are wings’ perfect mates and necessary to ensure a complete wing experience.

I decided to start with sweet and tangy teriyaki wings. They have classic flavor that is perfect for those who do not seek a lot of heat. The wings are meaty and not wimpy with a crispy crust and flavorful, juicy inside. Next, I moved up the flavor scale and sampled the two most popular flavors on the menu: the lemon pepper and original hot classic. The original hot were deep orange in color, fire tossed with a heated front flavor profile. It made my tongue tingle with hotness, but it was not hot enough to need to call the fire department. The lemon pepper was on the opposite end of the scale with its citrus kick of lemon mixed with a zesty pepper crust.

My favorite wings by far were the hickory smoked barbecue wings with their sticky, rich and sweet sauce that reminded me of summer cookouts. It’s a classic and homespun flavor we all know and most of us already love. If you crave crispy and garlicky, then choose the garlic Parmesan wings with their Italian-inspired taste that had a hint of garlic and buttery Parmesan cheese dusted on them. Super flavorful!

Other flavors include a Cajun zingy taste reminiscent of a Louisiana bayou. Or maybe you are seeking heat from the mango habanero sauce with a sweet and hot kick in the pants.

I decided to venture up the heat scale to the very hottest wing flavor Wingstop offers: the Atomic. This was aptly named. The wings were bright red and one small bite the size of a pea sent my tongue into a convulsion of heat, causing my nose to run, my face to heat up and my eyes to water. These bad boys have all the hot flavor many of you will flock to try. I will stick with the sweet and leave the heat for you adventure seekers.

Wingstop has more than just wings. It serves hand-cut crispy french fries that are dusted in an incredible salt and sugar mix. Other sides to try are the baked beans with onions in a sweet gravy or a classic, creamy Southern potato salad made with chopped egg and pickles. Other choices include a tangy coleslaw, fresh baked white rolls and desserts including cookies, brownies and other sweet treats. No matter what you choose, you will enjoy the Wingstop ride with or without the fire department.

Wingstop is open from 10:30 a.m.-midnight daily. Catering is available. For more information or to order and pick up in store, visit the website order.wingstop.com or call 689-6220.
