The Leroy James Farmers Market vendor of the week is Handmade Jewelry & Crafts by Jamie.

Jamie Edwards has been making jewelry since 2014 and has recently started painting mason jars and wine bottles.

“A spinal cord injury in 2000 left me with very limited mobility on my left side,” Edwards said. “I have helped on my dad’s produce farm and wanted more than summer work, so I decided to give jewelry making a try. This gives me the freedom to be a wife and mother and stay at home.”

Besides being a mom, she has a passion for jewelry design, and she strives to turn simple wire and beads into beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces. She also does custom orders.

The Leroy James Farmers Market is at 4560 County Home Road. Hours are from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The featured produce item for Saturday is summer squash. For more information, visit https://www.pittcountync.gov/599/Farmers-Marke

DEAR HARRIETTE: I am hosting a birthday party for myself. I kind of decided at the last minute. The party is coming together pretty well — probably because I have a lot of experience hosting events.

I just remembered a couple of people that I definitely should have invited but didn't. I just…

Cool, clean salads may not seem appropriate for March, when the weather wobbles between the tentative spring rays of sunshine and the stubborn gray remnants of winter. But maybe that's why this salad is perfectly timed.

You can apply the cliches "less is more" and "what you see is what you get,…

Seven months ago, I wrote a column about discovering a serious vitamin deficiency that was at least one apparent cause of significant changes in my mood and behavior.

When I wrote it, I had just been sent home after three awful weeks in the hospital, and I figured the worst was behind me.…
