The Leroy James Farmers Market vendor of the week is Handmade Jewelry & Crafts by Jamie.

Jamie Edwards has been making jewelry since 2014 and has recently started painting mason jars and wine bottles.

“A spinal cord injury in 2000 left me with very limited mobility on my left side,” Edwards said. “I have helped on my dad’s produce farm and wanted more than summer work, so I decided to give jewelry making a try. This gives me the freedom to be a wife and mother and stay at home.”

Besides being a mom, she has a passion for jewelry design, and she strives to turn simple wire and beads into beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces. She also does custom orders.

The Leroy James Farmers Market is at 4560 County Home Road. Hours are from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The featured produce item for Saturday is summer squash. For more information, visit https://www.pittcountync.gov/599/Farmers-Marke

Why would I ask you to read from a column I wrote almost 30 years ago?

When I read that column, tearfully, at a recent family reunion, I knew I wanted to share it with you, just in case you missed it back in 1987.

That year was one of triumph for my mother.

In 1933 she finished college and left her…
