The Leroy James Farmers Market vendor of the week is Yates and Bailey Bee Farm.

Yates and Bailey Bee Farm has been a vendor at the Leroy James Farmers Market for almost six years.

“I am a lifelong farmer,” said Bobby Yates, a Virginia native who got his first hive of bees at age 14. “Since then I have farmed the mountaintops of Virginia to the flat lands of North Carolina.”

In 2001, he moved to North Carolina to be with his grandchildren, bringing along three hives of bees. Now Yates and his grandchildren, Mason and Jesse Bailey, have 50 hives.

The Leroy James Farmers Market is at 4560 County Home Road. Hours are from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Farmers Market Nutrition Education Program presents a healthy cooking demonstration from 8 a.m.-noon each Saturday. The featured item for Saturday is cantaloupe. Samples and recipes of the prepared dish will be available. For more information, visit www.pittcountync.gov/599/Farmers-Market.

Congratulations, graduates! One day, you'll look back on the past six years and say, "Those college days were the happiest of my life."

Many of you will…

Which genie do you like best — Robin Williams or Will Smith?

Both actors have played Aladdin’s djinn in a bottle. Well, a magic lamp actually.

Both versions are Disney movies, one an animated cartoon, and now the live action film. Disney has appropriated the middle-eastern folk…

When I was young, one of my favorite side dishes was rice pilaf. It came in a slim box with a portion of rice and a sachet of spices, dehydrated chicken stock — and goodness knows what else — all set to prepare with water on the stovetop.

The results were salty, addictive and…
