RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say two day care workers accused of assaulting a toddler have been fired.
News outlets report 30-year-olds Alexis Mahan and Kara DeSerio were charged this week with misdemeanor assault on a child.
Knightdale police Chief Lawrence Capps says the department began investigating last month when the 2-year-old’s mother filed a complaint. An arrest warrant says the boy was grabbed by the arms, pushed to the ground and held face down at the day care. Police say the boy wasn’t hurt.
WRAL-TV reports Mahan told one of its reporters that she’s not talking. It’s unclear whether she had an attorney who could comment on her behalf. DeSerio’s attorney James Little says his client denies any wrongdoing.
The owner of the day care declined to comment.
