Vidant Health is making an investment in early literacy.
Books from Birth: Early Literacy Coalition of Eastern North Carolina recently announced that the hospital system gave $25,000 to its programs.
“They recognize the importance of literacy to health promotion and want to support our efforts in a significant way,” interim Executive Director Jennifer Christensen wrote in the announcement email. “They especially value our commitments to implementing evidence-based practice and ongoing research.”
Books from Birth recently brought Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Pitt County. Imagination Library sends new books to children each month up to age 5 at no cost to families.
The organization wants to sign up every Pitt County child age 5 or younger, which will be approximately 11,000 children. About 2,000 already have registered.
Registration is available at www.booksfrombirthofenc.com.
