East Carolina University canceled its outdoor commencement ceremony this morning due to severe weather and unsafe conditions.

The university issued an alert about the cancellation shortly after 8 a.m. The ceremony was scheduled to begin at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium at 9 a.m.

Individual college, school and departmental recognition ceremonies – scheduled across campus inside buildings – will be held as planned, the alert said.
