East Carolina University alumni and fans are preparing to paint the town purple as festivities kick into high gear for Homecoming weekend.

Using the 2017 theme “Pirates Around the World in Seven Days,” events will set sail tonight from 5-8 p.m. with a pep rally at Freeboot Friday. The ECU Marching Pirates will fire up the crowd with a performance at 6:30 p.m., and the ECU cheerleaders and mascot PeeDee the Pirate also will be on hand.

Those attending will have a chance to meet the 2017 Homecoming court and view performances from the top three contest winners from the ECU Homecoming Skit Competition.

The ECU Alumni Awards Ceremony and Dinner will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Greenville Convention Center, and Pirates also can step over to Wright Auditorium for the National Pan-Hellenic Council Step Show at 7 p.m.

Saturday starts off with the Homecoming parade at 9 a.m. The parade will travel along Fifth Street, beginning at Hilltop Street and ending at Reade Street.

Alumni can meet and mingle at the Pirate Game Day Tailgate from 4-6 p.m. at the ECU Soccer Stadium. The event includes a buffet meal, beverages, live music and entertainment, door prizes, and more. The tailgate is open to all friends and fans of ECU. Members of the alumni association can enter at 3:30 p.m. For pricing or ticket purchase, visit PirateAlumni.com.

And, of course, Homecoming festivities will peak on Saturday evening as ECU takes on BYU at the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime.
