An ECU graduate who now is senior vice president of sales and operations for Fenway Sports Management will deliver the address at the university’s fall commencement ceremony next week, the university announced Tuesday.
John Clark, a 1996 graduate of the School of Communication in the College of Fine Arts and Communication at ECU, started his career 21 years ago in minor league baseball sales and operations. His baseball days included stops in Kinston and Norwich, Conn., and Lakewood, N.J., where he helped start the Philadelphia Phillies’ Single A affiliate, the Lakewood BlueClaws.
After 10 years in baseball, Clark joined the NBA’s Houston Rockets, focusing on partnership sales. He then worked in professional football, managing the Miami Dolphins’ sponsorship group for a year. He then became vice president of team sales at Madison Square Garden.
In 2013, Clark joined Fenway Sports Management, which is affiliated with the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, New England Sports Network and Roush Fenway Racing.
Tuesday’s announcement said he develops sales infrastructure and guides the sales team in delivering sponsorships that connect the company’s clients with the audiences they wish to reach.
John and his wife, Keri, live in Natick, Mass., with their sons, Jackson, 5, and Tyler, 3.
“I’m excited to be coming back to ECU for fall commencement,” Clark said. “ECU broadened my perspective in so many ways and provided me with the platform to pursue the opportunity to work in sports in the first place.”
More than 2,200 students are expected to receive degrees this fall, including 1,607 undergraduates, 640 graduate students and 41 doctoral students. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Dec. 15 at Minges Coliseum.
Many of ECU’s colleges, schools and departments will hold unit recognition ceremonies during commencement weekend. A complete listing can be found at http://www.ecu.edu/commencement.
