Food distribution 

The Armor of God Christian Church, 2648 Mill St., Winterville, will host a food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon. The church will distribute food to the community every Thursday and Saturday at this time and location. Call 746-8403.

Senior council meeting

The Farmville Senior Council monthly meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the Soup Kitchen, 9492 S. Walnut St. Seniors age 60 and older are welcome to attend. The agenda will include planning monthly trips using the council’s van to the bird sanctuary at Scotland Neck and maybe back to Yoder’s for lunch. Participants are invited to share ideas for other trips at the meeting. Call Cathy at 714-5930.

Birthday celebration

Clinical trials workshop

A free workshop for people affected by cancer who are interested in learning about clinical trials will be presented from 4:30-6 p.m. on Tuesday at the McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge, 930 Wellness Drive. Dr. Darla Liles, ECU Brody School of Medicine professor, interim division chief of hematology oncology and director of clinical trials will be the presenter. Summer hunger

The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Greenville will host a 2018 Stop Summer Hunger Initiative Kick-off Event from 9:15-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Vidant Health, E.W. Monroe Center, 2000 Venture Tower Drive. Parking is free and a light breakfast will be served.


First Chance for White Pants will be held from 6-10 p.m. on May 31 at the Greenville Hilton, 207 S.W. Greenville Blvd. The event, a fundraiser for Methodist Home for Children, will feature dancing and live music with the band Liquid Pleasure, along with an auction. Military retirees

Military retirees in the area will meet at 8 a.m. for breakfast on June 2 at the Golden Corral restaurant, 504 Southwest Greenville Blvd. Around 8:30 a.m. the group will discuss matters of interest to the attendees. Contact Colonel Scott Barker at scott.barker@suddenlink.net.

Host families needed

Nacel Open Door, a nonprofit exchange student organization, is seeking local families to host international high school students for the 2018-19 school year. During their stay students will attend high school in the host family’s community. Students have their own health insurance and spending money. Host families simply provide room and board and help share the “American experience.” Families interested in hosting an exchange student should contact Nancy Campbell by email at ncampbell@team.nacelopendoor.org or by calling 947-0806.
