Blood Donors

The American Red Cross Eastern North Carolina Donation Center, 700 Cromwell Drive, will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and is in need of blood donors. Call 758-1140.

Farmers market

Flag display

The opening ceremony for the Field of Honor flag display at the Town Common sponsored by the Greenville Noon Rotary Club will be held at 9 a.m. The 3-foot by 5-foot flags can be purchased for $35 to recognize those considered to be "heroes" in your life. The flags will be displayed from May 26-July 4. Food distribution

The Armor of God Christian Church, 2648 Mill St., Winterville, will host a food distribution from 10 a.m. to noon. The church will distribute food to the community every Thursday and Saturday at this time and location. Call 746-8403.

Community outreach

Victory Christian Assembly, 4748 Stantsonsburg Road, in partnership with Windows of Opportunities Inc. of Raleigh, will give away a free meal and clothing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to flood victims, the homeless, the hungry or anyone in need. Veterans host bingo

The Veterans of Foreign Wars 7032 host bingo games every Saturday at the post headquarters, 1108 Mumford Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30 p.m. Call 758-3251 for information between 10 a.m. and noon daily.

Memorial ceremony

The Pitt County Veterans Council will sponsor a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Town Common,105 E. First St. The public is invited to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the commemorative event that was created in 1868 to pay tribute to the men and women in uniform who died in the service of this nation. The event will include a wreath-laying by the ladies auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans, speeches by Mayor P.J. Connelly and state Rep. Stop hunger kickoff

The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Greenville will host a Stop Summer Hunger Initiative kick-off event from 9:15-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Vidant Health, E.W. Monroe Center, 2000 Venture Tower Drive. The event will provide recognition to people in the community who serve those in need and information will be provided about the food bank’s distribution networks. A light breakfast will be served. Children’s advocacy

The TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center at ECU’s Brody School of Medicine will offer a free stewards of children class from 6-8:30 p.m. on June 5 at the Sheppard Memorial Library, 530 Evans St.. The class will address the topics of child sexual abuse prevention, recognition and response. Call 744-8334.

The Pitt County Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will sponsor a free vision screening for older adults from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on June 21. Call 752-1717.

Money management

The Pitt County Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road will provide free 30-minute, one-on-one sessions with a professional daily money manager on June 26. Appointments are required. Call 752-1717 to reserve a time.

Caregivers class

The Pitt County Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will host a six-week class, powerful tools for caregivers, from 2-3 p.m. each Thursday from July 12-Aug. 16. The class is designed to help family caregivers take care of themselves while caring for a relative or friend. Registration is required. Call Tamyra Jovel at 974-1837 or Brandie Garner at 974-1854.
