Alumni, students and friends lined Fifth Street on Saturday to help East Carolina University celebrate as the Marching Pirates and student groups marched in the annual homecoming parade.

This year’s Homecoming theme was “Pirate TV.” The Marching Pirates and high school bands, the ECU Cheerleaders, floats, the Homecoming Court, 2018 Alumni Award recipients and Pee Dee were part of the parade.

The parade was among many student and alumni events that led up to Saturday night’s football game between the Pirates and UCF.

The ECU Alumni Association hosted a Pirate Doughnut Party at the Taylor-Slaughter Alumni Center for alums to watch the parade as well as the Pirate game-day tailgate at Johnson Stadium for tailgating fun before the football game. A special reunion also was held for “Golden Graduates” from the class of 1968.

Students participated in homecoming events through the week including spirit contests and a canned food drive, and many schools and colleges hosted events for students and staff like the Homecoming Biology Nerd Nite hosted by the Biology Department at Tapped on Friday.

The National Pan-Hellenic Council held its annual step show at Wright Auditorium Friday and the Pirate volleyball team held is alumni reunion game Saturday morning and a match against USF Saturday at noon.
