A sixth grader at Ayden Middle School faces assault charges after he was accused of stabbing other students with a diabetic lancet on Thursday afternoon, police said.
According to Ayden Police Chief Barry Stanley, the boy found the needle somewhere in the school’s gymnasium. Stanley said four students were stabbed and a fifth was cut.
Following the incident, office staff contacted the school resource officer, and administrators notified the parents of the affected students.
As a precaution, Stanley said, the parents of the students who were stuck with the needle took their children to family doctors for evaluation. However, no serious injuries were reported and the students are expected to be OK, he said.
Per protocol of the Ayden Police Department, a juvenile petition has been issued against the student.
Stanley said this was an isolated incident that should not cause concern for parents or members of the community.
The school day continued, and Stanley said Ayden EMS did not respond to the incident.
