PCC gears up for holiday musical events

Students and staff in the music department at Pitt Community College have lined up several performances for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, the college announced this week. 

Students will present the first-ever Musical Theater night at Temple Free Will Baptist Church in Winterville, 130 W. Fire Tower Road, at 7 p.m. Monday. They will perform musical selections from shows such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “South Pacific,” “The Music Man.” “Les Miserables,” and many others. The performance is free, but donations will be accepted.

The Early College High School Band and Chorus Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 29 at the church. The “Wolves” of the early college high school will be performing music from Broadway shows, traditional choral works, band music from movies and, of course, music for the season. The Early College Choir is directed by Lisa Stockard and the Early College Band is directed by Miles Huggins. The concert is free for the community.

The PCC Symphony Orchestra and the PCC Choral will perform holiday favorites at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church, 510 S. Washington St. Thr concert is free and is an excellent for the entire family. Music will be performed from the movie “Frozen,” English composer John Rutter, Mozart, and many more Christmas favorites, including “Sleigh Ride.” Donations will be accepted.

The Elements of Praise and the PCC Jazz Band will present their Christmas concert at Temple Free Will Baptist Church at 7 p.m. on Dec. 7. This free concert will feature the swinging sounds of the PCC Jazz Band and the inspirational message of the season from Elements of Praise, PCC’s Gospel Choir. The entire family will enjoy this special concert of the season. Donations will be accepted.
