Soup kitchens

The Joy Soup Kitchen, 700 Albemarle Ave., serves a meal of soup, sandwiches and/or fruit from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. For more information call 561-7519.  The Community Outreach Soup Kitchen, 3492 Walnut St., Farmville, serves meals from noon-1 p.m. Monday through Friday. AARP meeting

The Greenville chapter of AARP will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Pitt County Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road. The guest speaker will be Barbara McLeod of REAL Crisis Intervention. The meeting is free and open to the public. Call Jack Hansel at 717-611.

Tea Party meeting

The ENC Tea Party will meet at 6 p.m. at the Mayflower Seafood Restaurant, 136 Davenport Farm Road, Winterville. Anyone wishing to order dinner needs to arrive between 5:30-5:45 p.m. The meeting will begin at 6:15 p.m. The guest speaker will be Lea Byers, legislative and policy expert with the Civitas Institute. She will share information on the newly installed General Assembly, the newly-appointed state Board of Elections and what can be expected from the legislature this year. Precinct meetings

■ Pitt County Precinct 5-B will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 39, 403 St. Andrews Drive. All Democrats in the precinct are welcome to attend and help organize locally. E-Mail PittCountyDems@gmail.com with any questions.

■ Precinct 10-B of the Pitt County Democratic Party will hold its annual meeting from 6-8 p.m. at First Christian Church, 2810 E. 14th St. The business meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a social 30 minutes prior. All Democrats in the precinct are welcome.

Sierra Club

The Cypress Group of the N.C. Sierra Club will meet at 7 p.m. at 131 Oakmont Drive. The guest speaker will be Josh Copenhaver, marketing director for N.C. State Parks, who will describe both the environmental challenges as well as the conservation successes of the parks system. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Board of Health meeting

Domestic violence seminar

The Center for Family Violence Prevention will offer a free seminar on domestic violence from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday in the Community Schools and Recreation Building at Alice Keene Park, 4561 County Home Road. The seminar is for people who are worried that a friend or family member is being abused and may not know what to do. Information will be provided about what the abused person may be going through, why they may not be ready to leave, how to lend support and encouragement and what resources are available. Seniors trip

The Winterville Senior Citizens Club plans to take a one-day trip on April 6 to the Rocky Hock Playhouse in Edenton to see the play “It Is Finished” by Gloria Emmerich. The bus will leave from the Town of Winterville parking lot at at 7 a.m. and return by 7 p.m. Price is $50 including transportation, performance and buffet. Payment in full is due by March 19.
