Man charged with DWI crashes into tree

A Greenville man was charged with driving while impaired after he ran off the road and crashed into a tree according to a State Highway Patrol crash report and Pitt County Court records.
The crash took place on March 9 at 1:32 a.m. near O’Farrell Avenue and Old River Road.
David Earl Pitt,57, of 1718 O’Farrell Ave., was traveling along O’Farrell Avenue in his 2002 Cadillac passenger vehicle when he ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. He was going 20 mph at the time of impact.
His vehicle sustained $500 in damages and he was not injured in the crash.
A trooper noted that Pitt was not wearing shoes and smelled strongly of alcohol and marijuana. Pitt also had red, glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet.
Eight other people also were charged with driving while impaired, according to court records and law enforcement reports available between March. 3 and March 10. In other cases, court documents indicate:
■ Vera Lynn Anderson, 43, of 398 Second St., Ayden, was stopped at 6:03 p.m. on March 7 near Speight Seed Farm Road in Winterville by the State Highway Patrol. She was involved in a wreck. According to the crash report, she was traveling south on Speight Seed Farm Road when she ran off the road to the right and crashed into a brick driveway. She then crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left before her vehicle came to rest. She was going 40 mph at the time of impact. Her 1997 Buick passenger car sustained an estimated $6,500 in damages.
The trooper noted that Anderson appeared dazed and confused and acted sleepy. Anderson admitted to taking medication.
■ Royce Wale Andrews, 38, of 3709 Pine Knoll Drive, Raleigh, was stopped at 1:51 a.m. on March 9 near N.C. 11 and Old Snow Hill Road in Ayden by the Ayden Police Department. He was charged with driving while license revoked and told the officer he had been drinking at a card game. He also had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.15.
■ Jorge Ramirez Ayala, 38 , of 150 Lakewood Drive, Jacksonville, was stopped at 11:07 p.m. on March 4 near N.C. 11 and Boyd Street by the Winterville Police Department. He was charged with driving without a license and reports indicated that he has never been licensed in the state of North Carolina. He was charged with going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. He was drowsy, had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.08.
■ Crystal Lynn Eakes, 35, of 801 Jade Lane,Greenville, was stopped at 1:40 a.m. on March 4 near Davenport Farm and Reedy Branch roads by the Winterville Police Department. She had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and wrecked her vehicle. The crash report was not available. She also urinated in her pants. Her blood alcohol level was 0.22.
■ Mickey Charles Lucas, 51, of 1104 Van Dyke St., Greenville, was stopped at 4:55 a.m. on March 4 near Speight Seed Farm and Abbott Farm roads by the State Highway Patrol. He also was involved in a crash but the crash report was not available. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and admitted to drinking. His blood alcohol level was unavailable.
■ Calvin Lee McKinney, 56, of 497 Vail Drive, Greenville, was stopped at 1:07 a.m. on March 10 near Tenth and Elm streets by the Greenville Police Department He also was charged with driving while license revoked and for going 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. His blood alcohol level was 0.13.
■ William Holt Johnson, 27, of 2250 Greenville Blvd., Greenville, was stopped at 2:18 p.m. on March 9 near East Tenth Street and Forrest Hill Circle by the East Carolina University Police Department. He had glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
■ Claudia Elizabeth Jones,19, of 4424 Surrey Meadows Drive, Winterville, was stopped at 12:41 a.m. on March 9 near Forlines Road by the State Highway Patrol. She was charged with underage drinking and had red, glassy eyes. Her blood alcohol level was 0.17.
