Farmers’ market

The Leroy James Pitt County Farmers’ Market, 4560 County Home Road, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will remain open during these hours on Saturdays in March and April. Visit www.pittcountync.gov/599/Farmers-Market or follow the market on Facebook.

Flag retirement ceremony

The VFW Post 7032 and American Legion Post 39 will be having a joint flag retirement ceremony at 9 a.m. The location will be the VFW Post, 1108 Mumford Road. The ceremony is open to anyone or any organization who would like to pay respect to our nation’s flag. For more information contact Rod Choy at 364-1083.

Democratic Party convention

The Pitt County Democratic Party will hold its 2019 County Convention at 10 a.m. at the Pitt County Courthouse, 100 W. Third St. Registration begins at 9 a.m. All delegates elected to serve as representatives of their precinct are expected to attend. For more information contact PittCountyDems@gmail.com.

Movie event

The Eastern N.C. Tea Party will host a movie event at noon at The Biscuit & The Bean, 168 Beacon Drive, Winterville, This month’s movie is “RBG,” the documentary of the life, both professional and personal, of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Free shred event

The Environmental Steward Action Group will sponsor a free shred event open to the community from noon to 2 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 2000 E. Sixth St., Greenville. There will be a five box or bag maximum per person. The event is limited to residential customers (no businesses, please). Staples, paper clips and thin folders can be shredded along with paper documents (no three ring binders).

Ballroom dancing 

The Greenville USA Dance Chapter will host a ballroom dance at 8 p.m. at the ECU Health Sciences Student Center (second floor), 1868 Health Sciences Drive (right on MacGregor Downs Road off Arlington Blvd.) Chikako Massey will be teaching salsa, beginning to advanced, at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Paws for a Cause

Alpha Omicron Pi and Sigma Nu will host Paws for a Cause from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the Mendenhall Brickyard on ECU’s campus. The event is an opportunity to meet dogs from the Pitt County Animal Shelter and pay for some play time. Cost is $3 for five minutes of play time and $5 for 10 minutes. All proceeds from the event will go to the Pitt County Animal Shelter.

Free breast cancer screenings 

Vidant Cancer Care will provide free clinical breast exams and 3D mammograms from 2 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Vidant Medical Center, Eddie and Jo Allison Smith Tower, 524 Moye Blvd. Women must meet the following requirements: age 40 or older; no health insurance; at least one year since last mammogram and income at or below 250 percent of federal poverty level. Event is free but participants must register in advance. To schedule an appointment call 847-9450.

Crossroads fundraiser

Community Crossroads Center's annual Homeless Nights Fundraiser at the Greenville Convention Center will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Attendees will hear firsthand stories of the residents served at the shelter. There will also be entertainment, a live auction, dinner and a 50/50 raffle. An afterparty with fun and dancing will be held after the event until 11 p.m. Tickets and sponsorships are now available. Community Crossroads Center relies on the generosity and compassion of the community to keep the doors to its facility open to the homeless in Greenville and Pitt County.
