Woman charged with DWI crashes into ditch, utility pole

A woman charged with driving while impaired crashed into a ditch and then struck a utility pole before driving on, according to Pitt County Court records.

Jamilla Jordan of 535 Salter Path Road, Unit 10, Atlantic Beach, was stopped at 3:01 a.m. on May 4 near Whichard Road and Rams Horn Road by the State Highway Patrol.  

According to the report, Jordan was traveling south on Whichard Road at 55 mph in her 2014 Mazda passenger car when she ran off the road to the left while going through a right hand curve.  She struck a ditch and a utility pole and then kept driving.  She eventually got stuck in the ditch.  

When the trooper tried to talk with her, she became irate, resords indicate. The trooper also found an empty open wine bottle in the floor on the passenger side of her vehicle.  He noted Jordan had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. 

When Jordan was asked to step out of the vehicle, she was unsteady on her feet.  

Five other people also were charged with driving while impaired, according to court records and law enforcement reports available between April 28 and May 5. In other cases, court documents indicate:

■ Samuel Phillip Briggs, 20, of 400 S. Greene St., Greenville, was stopped at 5:15 a.m. on May 4 near Whichard Road and Rams Horn Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had an odor of alcohol on his breath and red, glassy eyes. His blood alcohol level was 0.12.

■ Kimberly Love Carter, 18, of 174 Legacy Hall, Greenville, was stopped at 8:54 p.m.on April 30 near Legacy Hall and Haskett Way by the East Carolina University Police Department. She had slurred speech and glassy eyes.  Her blood alcohol level was 0.13.  

■ Sammy Lee Harrington, 46, of 712 B. W. Conley St.,  Greenville, was stopped at 1 a.m. on May 2 near West Fifth Street and Darden Drive by the Greenville Police Department.  He had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, red, glassy eyes and his speech was slurred. He also had an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. He did not have a driver’s license in his possession and was charged with driving with fictitious/altered tags/registration card. He refused a breathalyzer test.  

■ Kendra Yvette Shannonhouse of 3421 Lloyd Corey Road, Stokes, was stopped at 7:49 p.m. on Lloyd Corey Road by the State Highway Patrol.  She also was involved in a wreck. She had red, glassy eyes and an odor of alcohol on her breath. Her blood alcohol level was 0.20.  

■ Johnny Ray Ward, 56, of 2172 Rams Horn Road,Greenville, was stopped at 1:09 a.m. on April 30 near U.S. 264 and Old Pactolus Road by the State Highway Patrol. He had glassy eyes and a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. He also was cited for going 70 mph in a 55 mph zone. His blood alcohol level was 0.11
