Two injured in ambulance crash

Two women were seriously injured in an ambulance crash that took place on April 15, according to State Highway Patrol crash report.
The crash which occurred about 2:10 a.m. on U.S. 13 near Bethel also left one of the two women with a disabling injury.
The driver, Julya Marie Powell, of 112 Curtis St., Ahoskie, was traveling south on U.S. 13 at 60 mph when she ran off the road to the right, struck a mailbox and then overturned before the ambulance came to rest in a ditch.
At the time of impact, the ambulance was going 55 mph.
Powell was not injured in the crash.
The 2012 Chevrolet ambulance which is owned by Bertie Ambulance Service, sustained $8,000 in estimated damages.
Powell was charged with failure to maintain lane control.
As of May 9, Powell is still employed by the company.
The State Highway Patrol investigated 20 other crashes between April 15 and April 21. Wrecks involving deer and other animals are not included.
