A two-year-old girl is receiving treatment at Vidant Medical Center after being shot in the face by her five-year-old brother on July 4, the sheriff’s office reported.
The accidental shooting took place shortly after midnight at a home located at 2957 Birdsong Circle. Detectives said in a news release that a handgun was left unattended.
Parents of the children, Ampley Eugene Outlaw, 37, and Shaquita Shaunta Dickens, 34, are charged with failure to store a firearm to protect a minor. They were arrested on Monday and booked in the Pitt County Detention Center under $1,000 bonds. They since have been released.
The sheriff’s office did not disclose the extent of the little girl’s injuries.
