An administrator with Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools who alleged misconduct by Greenville police during a 2018 traffic stop will be heard in court in a special set hearing scheduled for Nov. 15. A special set hearing means that the hearing is the only one set before the court at that date and time.
Leondus Farrow Jr., 47, of Winterville has filed petitions through his attorney, Les Robinson, in Pitt County Superior Court to obtain footage from body cameras worn by the Greenville Police Department officers who arrested him, as well as in-car cameras.
According to an arrest warrant, Farrow was a passenger in a car being driven by Dache Ramese Selby, 32, of Winterville. Police stopped Selby’s vehicle for speeding about 12:20 a.m. on May 13, 2018, on Memorial Drive near Dickinson Avenue.
During the stop, Farrow shouted obscenities at an officer, according to the warrant. He also had an open container of alcohol, the warrant said.
Farrow and his attorney also are requesting footage from cameras at the Pitt County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of being intoxicated and disruptive and for having an open container of alcohol.
The civil petitions, filed on May 30 by Robinson, said the recordings contain evidence materially relevant to issues of Farrow’s presence when officers stopped a vehicle in which he was a passenger and that the evidence contained in the recordings is necessary to determine legal issues in a criminal case currently pending against him.
As of Tuesday, the video footage had not been released to the public and the case file did not have any ruling on the video footage request.
Efforts to reach Robinson and Kimberly Overton Spahos, who is assigned to prosecute Farrow’s case, were unsuccessful.
Farrow is a former principal at Rocky Mount High School and now is the assistant superintendent of student placement and intervention for the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools System.
