Ready, set, go! Back to school, that is.

Pitt County students will return to their classrooms on Aug. 26 with a systemwide open house for all schools taking place on Thursday.

To help students get prepared for the 2019-20 school year, haircuts, backpacks and school supplies, along with some food and fun, are on the agenda at several area events this coming week. In some cases, donations still are needed and would be greatly appreciated by the sponsors of the events.

Below is a list of what's happening:

English Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 101 Arthur St., will host a Back-to-School Rally from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The event will include fun, food and free backpacks and school supplies. The event also will include speakers from the Pitt County School Board, Greenville Fire-Rescue, the Greenville Police Department and other groups to offer advice on how to be a successful student for the 2019-20 school year.

Back-to-School Cookout

C.M. Eppes Middle School will sponsor a free Back-to-School Cookout from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday in the West Greenville Gym, 400 Nash St., in the front picnic area. The cookout will provide an opportunity to meet C.M. Eppes administrators and staff.
