Farmers’ market

The Leroy James Pitt County Farmers’ Market, 4560 County Home Road, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit www.pittcountync.gov/599/Farmers-Market or follow the market on Facebook.

Food distribution

The Armor of God Christian Church, 2648 Mill St., Winterville, will host a food distribution from 8-10 a.m. The church distributes food to the community every Thursday and Saturday at this time and location. Call 689-6590.

Grocery co-op meeting

A grocery co-op information session will be held at 10 a.m. at 6927 S. Highland Blvd., Grifton, at the former Tropicana Supermarket. The meeting is for anyone who is interested in learning about the proposed co-op or the Grifton and area, including clergy who can receive information about how their congregations can participate. Open paddle

A Time for Science offers open paddle on the kayak pond from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday at the Grifton Center, 949 Contentnea Lane. Cost is $10 per kayak rental. Contact Sam Eubanks at sam@atimeforscience.org or call 364-2862.

Veterans host bingo

The Veterans of Foreign Wars 7032 host bingo games every Saturday at the post headquarters, 1108 Mumford Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30 p.m. Call 758-3251 for information between 10 a.m. and noon daily.

Medicare info session

The Pitt County Council on Aging will host a session on “Medicare & You” from 3-4 p.m. on Monday at the Pitt County Senior Center, 4551 County Home Road. Christal Curran with the COA will answer questions about Medicare enrollment, coverage options and the different resources available to help you navigate the Medicare maze. The program is free, but seating is limited. Call 752-1717, Ext. 201, to register.

Summer concert

The Community Pops singers will preset a Mystical Magical Broadway concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at John Paul II Catholic High School, 2725 E. 14th St. A piano prelude will begin at 7:15 p.m. The concert will feature songs from many well-known stage productions including “Les Miserables” and “Wicked.”

Trails day

A free guided walk will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 24 at Alice F. Keene Park, 4561 County Home Road, in celebration of the first National TRACK Trails Day. This nationwide day of nature adventures highlights the 10th anniversary of the Kids in Parks program. Participants will be guided along the TRACK Trail by Cooperative Extension agent Hannah Smith, who will identify trees and share information. Visit KidsinParks.com.

Grant applications

Spring Fling 2020 applications to receive grants are available on the St. James United Methodist Church website, stjconnect.org, through Aug. 30. Eligible organizations are those that can document their status as a 501©(3) nonprofit group and those that provide one of the following: services to the sick, elderly, homeless, and other special population groups to improve the lives of women, men, and children; aid and assistance to religious institutions and spiritual causes; other worthy purposes that the Application Review Committee deems to be in keeping with the mission statement of St. James United Methodist Church. Next year’s Spring Fling will be held on April 25.

Heritage celebration

A Hispanic Heritage Celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 7 at Wellcome Middle School, 3101 N. Memorial Drive. The free event, sponsored by AMEXCAN, will include music, games, food and beverages and will include an exhibition of programs and services on the topics of education, health, immigration and more.
