New businesses coming soon to Greenville

Several new businesses including an upscale farm-to-table restaurant, two new seafood restaurants and a gas station are coming soon to Greenville.
After running a successful restaurant in Wilson for the last nine years, the owners of Soco Farm and Food have decided to relocate their dining establishment to the historic Jones-Lee House on Greene Street.
Local businessman Don Edwards said SoCo owners Jeremy and Kimberly Kulers approached him about purchasing the property after it was re-located from its previous Evans Street location as part of a historical preservation initiative.
"SoCo just came to town looking to perhaps locate in Greenville and we said, 'Wow, do you want to look at this house?'" Edwards said.
"It was kind of a stroke of luck for us," he said. "And then they came in and said, 'We love the house but we don't want to lease it, we want to buy it. We were then immediately able to sell the property and the house."
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Edwards said the restaurant will be an asset for Greenville.
According to SoCo's website, the restaurant focuses on serving scratch-made food in an intimate atmosphere.
SoCo stands for "Southern Comfort. This — along with the vision of eating well and eating local — is at the heart of the food and atmosphere SoCo creates for its guests, according to the restaurant's website.
"When this farm and restaurant were founded, the goal was to give people a unique dining experience," the website states.
While a menu has not been set, previous menu items included watermelon steak, grapefruit and kale salad, peach panna cotta, seared scallop in melon and tomato water, pork shank with coconut milk farro, buttermilk fried rabbit and pork belly with berries.
SoCo previously was located on an 11-acre farm in Wilson, where most of the organic vegetables, fruit and natural poultry are grown for use in the restaurant. The remainder of the ingredients are sourced locally as well.
No time frame has been set for when the new restaurant will open and Edwards said a lot of work still needs to be completed, including possibly having the house added to the the National Register of Historic Homes.
The Kulers could not be reached for comment.
More dining options
Two Cajun seafood restaurants are coming soon, although a timeline for when they plan to open has not been determined.
The Juicy Crab seafood restaurant will be built at the former location of Rucker Johns, 4002 S. Memorial Dr., Winterville.
According to its website, "You may feel you are near the coast of New Orleans, near the jazz district, enjoying the most uniquely seasoned seafood. Come in and get your hands a little messy with our secret juicy seasonings and blend of spices.
As its name implies, The Juicy Crab serves Cajun-style seafood boils with a choice of fresh seafood; and fried baskets including fish and chips, fried oysters, fried catfish and chicken tenders.
Appetizers include signature 'juicy special' wings, popcorn shrimp, hushpuppies, fried or raw oysters and onion rings.
Desserts include a variety of cakes, including molten chocolate, red velvet and carrot, as well as New York-style cheesecake.
Beer, wine and cocktails also are offered.

Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar will offer another seafood option at 500 S.W. Greenville Blvd., near the Golden Corral in the former location of HuHot Mongolian Barbecue Restaurant.
According to the company's website, "Hook & Reel will only use the finest and freshest seafood, coupled with fresh garlic, lemon pepper, herbs and spices' and chili powder. All ingredients combine for a one-of-a-kind aroma and finger-licking experience,."
The restaurant specializes in fresh seafood, meat and vegetables.
"Hook & Reel is a rapidly growing casual family dining restaurant chain, with new locations opening at a brisk pace," the website states.
Customers create their personalized meals through a three-step process. First, they select their seafood from the menu, which includes crawfish, shrimp, crabs, mussels, crab legs, lobster and scallops. They the select a sauce from options such as garlic butter, Cajun, lemon pepper or the Hook & Reel special blend. Next they select the level of heat they prefer — from mild to fire. They also can add extras like boiled eggs, corn on the cob, potatoes and sausage.
Po'Boy Sandwiches; sliders; baskets with fried fare like shrimp, chicken tenders, wings or catfish, a cold food bar, soups and salads also are offered.
The Hook & Reel bar serves up cocktails, draft and bottled beers and wines.

Construction is beginning on a new service station to replace the demolished Kangaroo gas station on the corner of 14th Street and Greenville Boulevard, across from the Speedway gas station.
The station will be located at 1531 Greenville Blvd. and a building permit valued at $1 million was issued on Feb. 25 to Hillsborough-based W.L. Bishop Construction Co.
Greenville-based E.R. Lewis Construction Company is a subcontractor. W.L. Bishop's project manager could not be reached for comment.
