Well Armed Woman

Greenway clean up
Bye Bye Plastic Bags N.C. and cycLAST are teaming up for a greenway cleanup and bike ride at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Greensprings Park, 2600 E. Fifth St. Participants will pick up trash and then ride the greenway and should bring their bikes, helmet, water bottle, gloves and a recycled/repurposed bag to collect trash. The W.H. Robinson Alumni Association Banquet, celebrating the school's 119th Anniversary will be held from 6:30 p.m. to midnight on Saturday at the Holiday Inn, 203 S.W. Greenville Blvd. Tickets are $50 per person Classes of 1959 and 1969 will be highlighted. The event will include entertainment, door prizes and 50/50 raffles. Vendors will be on site. The "meet and greet," included in the price of the ticket, will be from 7-10 p.m. on Friday at the Winterville Community Building, 2593 Railroad St., Winterville. The Council on Aging, 4551 County Home Road, will offer a memory screening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 3. Call 752-1717.
First Citizens Bank will present the Ultimate Pre-Game Party from 5:30-11 p.m. on Sept. 6. at the Greenville Convention Center, 303 S.W. Greenville Blvd. The event is held to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain and will feature live music; dozens of vendors, including local food and businesses; a silent auction; games and more. A Hispanic heritage celebration sponsored by AMEXCAN will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 7 at Wellcome Middle School, 3101 N. Memorial Drive. The event will feature presentations from various dance groups, music and food. For more information, contact 258-9967.
50-cents book sale
The Friends of Sheppard Library will hold a 50 Cents Book Sale from Sept. 13-15 at the library, 530 Evans St. The hours will be noon-5 p.m. on Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday ($3 bag day). There will be thousands of items to choose from including paperbacks, VHS tapes and some older hardbacks, all for 50 cents each. Visit Sheppardlibrary.org.
Activities and resources
The Martin-Pitt Partnership for Children is offering a free activity and resource group for city of Greenville residents who meet eligibility requirements. Sessions will include activities and resources on health and wellness, development milestones, community resources, overall family success and more. Eligibility requirements include being the caretaker of a child between the ages of 0-5 years and meeting Housing and Urban Development median income limits based on household size. The Grifton School PTA will host a health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Grifton, 513 McCrae St., Grifton. This free event will feature blood pressure screenings, glucose screenings, safety education, weight and height screenings, health education, games and prizes, food and fun for the family.
