A downtown dispute between two large groups early Saturday led to fist fights and left one 22-year-old man injured and unconscious, the Greenville Police Department reported Monday.

The fight happened about 1:59 a.m. near the 100 block of Cotanche Street and Reade Circle, according to police department spokeswoman Kristen Hunter.

Hunter said she did not know how many people were fighting but said the two groups exchanged words after leaving from a bar and began fighting in the street.

This was a mutual combat situation meaning both parties are considered to be the aggressor, Hunter said.

The victim, Dwayne Quinton Brown of Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, came to on scene and was taken to Vidant Medical Center with several major injuries including a puncture wound, a nose injury and a head injury that left a large lump.

Arthur Isiah Brown, 25, of 3194 Williams Road, Apt. 16, Greenville, was arrested and charged in the incident, according to warrants obtained Monday.

Brown is charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond.

Hunter said the incident doesn't appear to be gang related and that it remains under investigation.

No further arrests are expected, Hunter said.
